Circulating Print Collections

The library holds approximately 100,000 volumes in several collections: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Biography, Mystery, Science Fiction, Study Guides, ESL, Foreign Language, Large Print, Paperbacks, Children's & Young Adult. Periodicals (newspapers and magazines) are located in the Reference Room. Use the Library Catalog to search our print material holdings (books & periodicals), to obtain call numbers, and to see if items are on the shelf or checked out. You can place items on hold using the catalog or by contacting a Reference Librarian.

Special Print Collections

Thanks to a partnership between the Sayreville Library, the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Committee, and The Friends of the Sayreville Library, digital scans of SWMHS Yearbooks 1942 - 2016 are available here!

The library also has a Reference collection that can be used within the building. Our Local Documents collection and New Jersey History collection provide the public access to community meeting minutes, Sayreville Borough ordinances, and several Sayreville local history texts. A set of vertical files also includes additional historical information regarding Sayreville. Contact a Reference Librarian for further information regarding these collections.

The Sayreville Public Library subscribes to many newspapers and magazines, including the Home News Tribune, the Asbury Park Press, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and more. For a complete list of periodicals available in paper format in the library, click here. Current periodicals (newspapers and magazines) are located in the Reference Room. Newspapers are held in the Reference Room for 2 days until placed in storage. The library holds newspapers for a total of 3 months in storage. Magazines issued weekly are held in the Reference Room for 2 months, while magazines issued less frequently are held in the Reference Room for up to 6 months. The library keeps back issues in storage for up to 2 years. The library subscribes to online databases which offer the public access to back issues for certain periodical titles. Patrons inquiring about older newspapers or magazines should speak to a Reference Librarian for access.
